The Iconic Puzzle Game Didn't Succeed at This Gaming Ceremony — Another Award Type Could Fix That

As any major prize-giving event approaches, you'll find a clamor for the addition of new categories to acknowledge underappreciated efforts and fill the hearts of fans who have specialized interests.

A fellow writer made the case for a horror game category. That would be fantastic. Equally deserving are strategy board titles, which is someone's personal cause. But they will have to forgive me when I prioritize just as with other dedicated enthusiasts, there's a strong justification supporting my request is the most urgent and important of all. This is the request: We need a classification for brain-teasing titles.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Organizing artistic expressions defies precise measurement; it’s very subjective, and typically spark debates and end in fuzzy definitions. It's understandable that film award organizations don’t do it. Yet it remains an essential concession in the world of interactive entertainment, that demonstrate such variety they barely qualify as a single art form.

For the full spectrum of interactive entertainment excellence to be recognized, while allowing diverse titles to have a chance for representation, classification by type becomes crucial.

Current Gaming Award Categories

Leading game ceremonies offer these award types recognizing Action, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Between them, these award types successfully include many game types, making space possible for numerous titles.

Not so for logic-based experiences. There’s simply nowhere to accommodate them. Think about these outstanding current releases, each quite distinct: building puzzles of one title, intense tile-matching in a different title, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles of a third title. Where could they possibly go within current classifications? Simply put, no category fits.

Recognition Challenges

Many instances occur outstanding logic titles released every year lacking appropriate categories in entertainment awards, except when they manage to fit for categories like Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, or the intensely contested small studio competitions.

  • A renowned logic title wasn’t nominated completely that year
  • A different innovative game received no nominations in 2019
  • A beloved organization game got ignored that year
  • Only a few logic titles barely qualified for independent or mobile categories

Importance of Logic Titles

Frequently they represent compact experiences, yet the craft of the puzzle game holds tremendous importance. Famous handheld logic titles count as the most-played games in the world and have been for many years.

The legendary block-stacking game competes with well-known building titles claiming status as most purchased experience; it’s also in the running for top gaming experience. Logic titles represent cornerstones within interactive entertainment, and they are in conversation with almost every other genre.

Proposal and Rationale

Puzzle games wouldn’t have that issue. It would be easy to populate a field of five interesting, varied, worthy titles annually without trouble — or rather, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave so many good games out.

To emphasize again, these represent titles lacking appropriate categories during prominent ceremonies. Puzzle game makers are working at the challenging frontier game development, producing among most fundamental forms of the video game form. Similar to film action specialists, they merit acknowledgment. Let’s not keep them waiting 35 years.
